The acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, has said that the party is unaffected by the series of defections rocking political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. She recently downplayed the recent wave of defections from the party, and Nigerians have been reacting.
Speaking while answering questions from reporters, Nenadi revealed that the Labour Party remains strong in the face of its several challenges, and the LP is still very much committed to restoring national dignity and delivering people-centred governance.
According to her, the present APC-led Federal Government has been the most impoverishing in Nigeria’s history, and it is the least to be expected from a visionless political party.
She stated that the hardship faced by Nigerians has been intolerable in recent months, so a change is definitely needed.
“The APC has failed Nigerians. The suffering of our people has never been this widespread or this severe,” she said.

Nenadi further noted that the recent defections have been very disappointing, stressing that the decision taken by the defectors is not just morally indefensible, but also legally questionable.
She concluded by saying that most of the politicians who left the party never truly shared its vision, so their exit will end up strengthening the party’s internal cohesion.
“We made some mistakes in candidate selection, but those lessons have been learned. Going forward, we will be more deliberate in choosing those who genuinely align with our mission of building a new Nigeria,” she added.
