Popular music producer Cobhams Asuquo has said that he works 5 times harder than others because he is blind. He recently revealed that determination and resilience have been key factors in his success story.
Speaking during a heartfelt interview with Hip TV, Cobhams shared that he has never shied away from his visual impairment, and he actually prefers to be described as blind rather than visually impaired, because he embraced his reality a long time ago.
According to him, embracing his limitations as a human being has helped him to look past his struggles, and he can only urge Nigerians living with disabilities to draw power from their unique experiences.
“I’m not visually impaired. I’m completely blind — I can’t see a thing. And that’s totally alright. I’ve made peace with it, even found humour in it sometimes. It’s who I am, and I embrace it,” he said.

The beatmaker further noted that the stereotype that blind people are incapable is completely false, stressing that it is presently his life’s mission to prove that such a notion is wrong.
He concluded by saying that he believes it is okay to be blind, as long as you own it and find strength in it.
“My awareness of myself as a blind person makes me work five times as hard as others, There’s a stereotype that blind people are incapable, and I’ve made it my mission to prove that wrong. I want to show that I can be capable of so much more.
I think it’s totally okay to be blind, The world has become overly sensitive, and while that has its place, I believe in calling things what they are. Don’t live in denial or hide behind euphemisms. Own your reality, and find strength in it,” he added.
