Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has condemned the internal selfishness within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He recently revealed that PDP leaders must learn to be selfless because selfishness can kill a system.
Speaking during a media chat today, Wike revealed that the Peoples Democratic Party must not give its 2027 presidential ticket to the Northern part of Nigeria, a comment seen as a direct attack on Atiku Abubakar, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate.
According to him, giving the presidential ticket to a Northerner would definitely weaken the party’s relevance in future elections, especially if the ruling party retains power in 2 years.
Wike believes that if President Tinubu wins again in 2027, the APC will most likely send their 2031 presidential ticket to the North, and he wonders what the PDP would do by then.
“PDP cannot give the presidential ticket to the North (in 2027).
For example, if Mr President runs and wins in 2027, by 2031, APC will send their presidential ticket to the North.
PDP will do what then? You will come back then and say since APC is sending it to the North, we should follow them and give it to the North?” he said.

Recall that Wike recently criticised former PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He disclosed that anyone who is seeking a coalition is surely driven by selfish interests, especially the ambition to become president.
Nyesom noted that it is sad to see how every politician wants to be president of the country nowadays, and very few party members are actually trying to build the party.
“Everybody wants to become president of the country. Nobody wants to say, ‘Look, let me build our party so that at the end of the day our party will be in a formidable position as an opposition party to take over power.’
The governors forum is a pressure group that can put influence on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party. You cannot take the functions of the NWC and say because you are governor, you now superintend,” he added.
