The Air Peace London flights Ogun development is set to reshape Nigeria’s aviation landscape as Air Peace has announced plans to begin direct international flights from Ogun State’s Gateway International Airport to London this summer.
Titansloaded reports that the airline’s Chief Executive Officer, Allen Onyema, made the disclosure during an inspection visit to the facility alongside Dapo Abiodun.
According to Onyema, the airline will operate flights to major UK destinations, including London Gatwick and Heathrow, marking a major milestone for the airport and the state.
He described the Gateway International Airport as one of the most advanced in Sub-Saharan Africa, emphasizing that its infrastructure particularly the long runway can accommodate wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777, which will be deployed for the route.
The move is expected to reduce congestion at Lagos airports while providing travelers in Ogun and neighboring states with easier access to international flights.
Governor Abiodun also outlined ambitious plans to transform the airport into a full-scale economic hub, revealing projects such as a five-star hotel, an international conference centre, and expanded cargo operations.
He noted that cargo flights have already commenced, with expectations of increased activity as more airlines show interest in the facility.
The governor further disclosed that Gateway Airlines has already acquired aircraft to improve domestic connectivity, positioning the airport as a strategic aviation hub.
Industry observers say the planned London route could significantly boost trade, tourism, and investment in Ogun State, while strengthening Nigeria’s global aviation presence.
If successfully implemented, the initiative could elevate Gateway International Airport into one of Nigeria’s busiest airports, rivaling established hubs in Lagos and Abuja.
